ODYSSEY DANCE TROUPE
Hellenic Community of Ottawa

The goal of the Odyssey Dance Troupe is to foster knowledge and an appreciation of our Hellenic traditions through folkloric song and dance. By attaining this goal via various learning opportunities (i.e. lessons, workshops, conferences), we not only aim to educate our own dancers through our weekly lessons, but the members of the Hellenic Community of Ottawa and the greater public through our performances.
The Odyssey Dance Troupe hosts weekly practices that focus on a select group of regions which provides an increased focus on a particular dancing style. In the 2004/2005 dancing season, these regions included the North-East Aegean Islands, Thrace, and the Dodecanisia. For 2005/2006, we are expanding our repertoire from Thrace to focus specifically on Evros and Anatoliki Romelia, as well as enriching our repertoire from the North-East Aegean Islands (Thasos, Chios, and Limnos). Our new area of focus will be the island of Crete.
The group currently consists of over 30 dancers from various levels of experience and backgrounds. Each of them is an integral part of the greater whole and Odyssey is fortunate to benefit from their enthusiasm and dedication.
