Information to Donate to Haiti Relief

Did you know – Haiti was the first country that recognized Greece’s Independence War in 1821. Eventhough the country was coming out of its own War of Independence and was in economic strife, Haiti sent 25 tones of coffee in order to be sold to buy weapons for the Greek fighters. Also 100 Haitian volunteers went to Greece and fought beside the Greek fighters! We have never honoured this great friend of Greece … let us honour Haiti now - almost 200 years later - by helping them economically as much as we can.

Earthquake Disaster – No doubt everyone has heard about the earthquake in Haiti which has caused devastating damage, but most of all, hundreds of thousands of people have been injured or killed. Everyone here is asking, “How can we help?” and “How can we ensure the help gets to the people who need it?”

How Can You Help – Along with all the other Church-Communities across Canada, the HCO is collecting donations for this devastating cause. The Community will provide a donation receipt for funds received with your name and address. ALL the funds collected will be sent for relief through proper channels. Anyone wishing to offer a donation may do so via cheque, cash, debit or credit card - please see below.

• Offer your donation at Church on Sunday morning: directly to the Membership Committee or in an envelope with your name and address
  
  
• Drop by the Church or Community offices during the week from 8:30-4:30, or
  
  
• Mail your cheque ASAP, payable to the “Hellenic Community of Ottawa” with a notation of ‘Haiti relief’ in the memo line (1315 Prince of Wales Drive, Ottawa, ON K2C 1N2), or
